If you had 25 parties on the same day and they averaged only $250 in sales, how much would that be?
I’ll do the math for you — it would be $6250 in sales. At 25% profit margin that would be $1562 you would make (minus any expenses) Would that be a nice “Christmas Bonus?”

If you had 25 parties with an average of 10 guests per party- that’s 250 new customers (and many could be from different areas which could turn into recruit leads!) How cool would it be to have this kind of growth in your business without you having to run all over town, instead to have the hosts coming to you?
Wouldn’t it be great to have this kind of sales and growth without you having to constantly harrassing the host? You can have all this if you commit to having TURKEY TROTS!
NOTE: If you would rather LISTEN than READ how to do a Turkey Trot, I’ve included the AUDIO with this training. (This was recorded a few years ago but everything is revelant!) T9-02-Turkey-Trot If you want to listen to streaming audio, I’ve had better luck when I open it with Crome or FireFox Browsers. I’ve had better luck saving it to my own computer when using Explorer. It all depends on your computer set up and configurations. (I think you’ll need to RIGHT CLICK and save it to your computer. Then OPEN it with your audio player on your computer.)
So, let’s answer the “What is a Turkey Trot?” question:
Essentially it is an EASY type of BOOK PARTY!
Your hosts get to take this cute “It’s a Turkey Trot” Bag to their Thanksgiving get-together (Whether it be friends, family or even a work party!)
In the bag are catalogs, order forms, and everything else needed to help their family and friends to shop and place their Christmas or holiday gift orders with you!
HOW to do a Turkey Trot:
You know how either before or after dinner everyone gets out the ADS and checks out what they want to go and get on the biggest shopping day of the year. Well, why not provide catalogs so they can be looking at YOUR products and decide what to get for gifts for their friends and family? Or, at an office party, leave out your Turkey Trot Bags and let your friends shop!
The steps are EASY, and the time is NOW to start promoting Turkey Trots!
We have lots of ways you can advertise your “Turkey Trots!” It is important to start advertising early so that your guests and customers can book a Turkey Trot. Create interest with these suggestions:
A: Wear a “Host a Turkey Trot” BUTTON (B991552 -- Host a Turkey Trot Now BUTTON) around town or during your parties!
Or Create interest with the “Ask me about my Turkey Trot!” BUTTON (B991551 -- Ask about Turkey Trot BUTTON)
B: Put the “Ask me about my Turkey Trot” STICKERS (S991551 -wp- Ask Turkey Trot WHSS -54...) on your invitations to upcoming parties. This will get people wondering about this and may even encourage greater attendance.
C: Put the larger “Book your Turkey Trot NOW” (S991552A -wp- Book Turkey Trot NOW WHMS...) stickers on your catalogs and folders. Use the smaller “Host a Turkey Trot” (S991552B -wp- Host Turkey Trot NOW WHSS...) stickers on your order forms because EVERYONE can have a Turkey Trot! (You and THEY don’t need to worry about other calendared events!) These can even be used INSIDE your catalogs. (Cover them up later with another sticker of the same size!)
D- Prepare your “Turkey Trot” bags (HC991551-6 -- SIX Turkey Trot Toppers & Bags) with your host packet, some catalogs, order forms, guest list, holiday gift list, your “Turkey Trot Rules” guest info, (see more info below) etc. Put them up in your party display.
(Remember to have the bags ready at the time they book their “Turkey Trot” you won’t have to chase around to get them catalogs, etc.)
Of course you will need to send to take them to those who book from the postcards you send.
Another idea is if you have any events coming up like boutiques, tables at fairs, etc. Have your bags all ready to go so you can give them immediately. This is so easy because there is no driving to meet with hosts, etc. Once they have their bag, you can keep in touch to encourage via mail, email and phone calls.
E: Use the New “Book your Turkey Trot -- See your extra prize inside” Large Candy Bar Wrappers! (CBW991552AL -- Book your Turkey Trot for...) on your table at both parties and events. When they book right there, they get an extra prize (With a Qualified Party). Just put a post it note with the prize written on it on the candy bar before you wrap it. If you need to change gifts, just slide back the wrapper!) If they are curious as to what is involved, it is spelled out on the back in the “ingredients list!’
F: Send the invitation to do a “Turkey Trot” (PP991552CT -wp- Invite to Host Turkey...) Postcards to previous hosts or good customers. The more the merrier and they ALL need gifts! Why not buy them from you instead of the local stores? This postcard is available with or without text. On the graphic only cards (Ends with a C) you can print whatever you want (Print ONTO the colorful perforated cards in black ink with your own printer, then pull apart and mail. Use the FREE TEMPLATE you will find in the DOWNLOAD section once you click into the item.) The TEXT postcards (Item number ends in T) include text we have come up with to make it easy for you. Just include your contact info! Or, better yet, we can PERSONALIZE the cards for you. (Same item numbers with a PR at the end. Fill in your contact info and we will print it along the bottom!)
G- Talk about how EASY it is to do a Turkey Trot during your demo and tell everyone how easy it is. Use the example above that everyone is looking at the ads, why not make a party of it! No waiting in lines, no having to get up early to take advantage of a sale because you’ll be offering incentives, discounts, and rewards too! Briefly discuss the rules and incentive you offer (see ideas below.) You’ll draw attention to the “Turkey Trot” Bags and Candy Bar Wrappers in your display.
SECOND: PREPARE! (You will actually want to do some of this BEFORE you advertise!)
I have mentioned before the RULES. What I mean by this, is specific ideas that you may want to set up for your Turkey Trots. You’ll want to include a copy of these “Rules” in each bag, and go through them with your hosts. I have created a WORD document that you can use as is, or update it with your own RULES. Once you’ve created your version, save it and print it out on fall colored paper. Here are some things that will be included in the rules: (You can of course adjust the Qualifying Party to be whatever YOUR company requires Then set additional rewards based on what YOU want to do. These are just some suggestions.)
A- All “Turkey Trot” hosts with a “Qualified” party receive a TICKET to be entered in a drawing for $25 (or whatever you choose) in Free Products. A qualified party is one with at least 3 orders besides your own and total sales of $150 or more. Entries will be combined from ALL your Turkey Trot parties for the season.
B- Make several copies of the “Guest List” to include in each bag. Hosts that turn in a “guest list” will receive a TICKET for each 10 names. The guest list must include names, address, phone and email if available. (A “Turkey Trot” guest list is included at the end of this PDF.”) Also make copies of the HOLIDAY GIFT LIST (at the end of this PDF) to include in the bag so hosts can give one to each guest. This will increase sales as they will know who they need to buy for.
C- Each person who enters their info on the Turkey Trot Guest List will receive a chance to win a 50 gift card. PLUS, for every $10 of their order they will receive more chances to win. Entries will be combined from ALL your Turkey Trot parties for the season.
D- Each customer who places an order over $50 will receive a 5% discount on their order place AT the Turkey Trot, in addition to their tickets. (Remember, you can offer this discount, or maybe even more to incentivize orders because you didn’t have to travel and you’ll have multiple orders going in at the same time (which could mean you will be getting a larger discount yourself!)
E- Once the party total is over $150 in orders (Not including the host’s order) she will receive 10% off her personal order that is NOT part of her regular host rewards.
F- When party totals are over $300 the host may choose ONE half price item. Over $600 receive TWO half price items. Over $1000 = THREE half price items. (Of course, IF your company offers half price items. If not, you may want to offer some other incentive to get the party totals up.)
G- Hosts will receive a ___________ as a “Thank You” gift when she turns in her QUALIFIED party. Requiring a qualified party means you are not out anything except the bag and catalogs if she doesn’t do anything. It is also great incentive to remind the host to do her part.
H- All these gifts or discounts are in ADDITION to the regular host gifts they qualify for depending on the amount of their party. (If you plan on combining orders, you may want to adjust this.)
I- Hosts will receive ________ for each NEW party booked from the “Turkey Trot” (either regular party or book party will qualify. Gifts will be rewarded at the time the party’s are held on the original date booked and closed.) (These can be your normal host reward for booking a party)
J- A fun option: Hosts may come to your home to “Check Out” some items to take as samples for their “Turkey Trot” on a first come first serve basis. The quicker they book, the more there is to choose from. The check out day will be ________. All checked out items must be returned by ______ or you will be charged for them.
If you are going to offer this “Check Out” incentive, you’ll want to mention it during your demo (as well as other rules, to create interest.
To do the CHECK OUT: Select a date that they can stop by your house and pick up a sample or two. (This can be a great incentive- the hosts can choose items from your kit on a first come first serve basis to take to their “Turkey Trot” to show her family and friends.
For example if you sell Cooking Items that you demo, a host can check out an item that she can use in preparing the meal or demo for her family. Or, if you sell games, they can check out a game. If you sell scrap booking items let them take a stamp or two so they can make a project. If you sell make-up let them take some samples. If you sell candles, let them take some samples so they can burn them and the family get to enjoy them. If you sell jewelry, let them check out a few samples.
Now, notice that I said CHECK OUT. When they come to pick up the item they will need to sign a check out slip with their credit card number and the understanding that they return it by the specified date in sellable or similar condition as they received it or they will be charged. Explain to them that you need these items back for your upcoming parties. Let them know upfront what that date is and preferably this will also be the close date and they can set an appointment to come to your home to bring the orders and close the party.
THIRD: HINTS for GREATER SUCCESS
• Be sure to “sticker” your catalog with “gift reminder” type of stickers to draw attention to your products that make great gifts. You may even want to “TAB” a few pages where you want to draw attention to specials. Be sure use the “Favorites” and “Gotta Have It” stickers. Remember, you won’t be there to “Sell” your products so let the stickers do the work for you. See a selection of stickers we’ve included in the T9-02 -- What is a Turkey Trot? CATEGORY. • Use the “Your Christmas Gift Solution” (S44457 -p- Your Christmas Solution RC -63...) Sticker to attach “Trotter Gifts” tag to the front of each catalog so each guest knows what rewards he or she will receive with her order. (See the WORD document)
• You may want to include a “Holiday Gift List” sheet in each catalog so they can make a list of people they need to buy for and then list your products that would make great gifts. (See the end of this PDF)
• Use the “Thank you for helping me earn Christmas” (S995554 -wp- Thanks Help Earn Christmas...) stickers on each of the order forms to reinforce that they are helping their family member to earn Christmas gifts by placing an order.
FOURTH: FOLLOW UP
A- Once they booked their Turkey Trot, you give them their bag with “It’s a Turkey Trot” double sided topper HC991551-6 -- SIX Turkey Trot Toppers & Bags to take to their Thanksgiving events (or even to the office party). Show the host what is included in her bag and briefly discuss the “Turkey Trot Rules” and other goodies. These cute bags make it so easy because YOU can have everything in the bag ready to go, and everything they need is IN THE BAG for them to take to their event. Easy for everyone! You may want to include in the bag the “Ask me about my Turkey Trot!” BUTTON (B991551 -- Ask about Turkey Trot BUTTON) for the host to wear. This will help to remind everyone as well as letting know who to ask if they have questions.
B- Fill in the CLOSE DATE and DELIVERY DATE of the party on the Turkey Trot sticker (S992553 -wp- Turkey Trot Close Date WHMS...) and put it on the front of the bag and the host envelope (Where she records orders, amounts and puts the orders and money inside.) This reminds her family of this important information. (Be sure to let the host know how to handle orders that will need to be shipped directly to the customer if they don’t live close.)
C- If customers are using a credit card, make sure they know to get card number, expiration date, security code, name on card, address and phone number. Let her know who checks should be make payable to. You may want to include this info in an email you send.
D- Prior to Thanksgiving send the “Turkey Trot” reminder postcard (PP992553CT -wp- Turkey Trot DATES for Host...) with the close date, etc. The postcards are all ready to go, just fill in your info. This is so easy because you do them ALL at the SAME TIME. You may want to set up specific times to be working with the hosts, you can include that on the bottom of the postcards. If you have their email address, send a reminder the day before. Also send an email reminder about the “Close Date.” We also offer the postcard with just the graphic if you want to print your own info, or both are available personalized.
E- Once you’ve got all the orders in, finalize and close the parties. Of course you will need to let your host know where she stands on host rewards and call her back for what items she wants to include with her order. This could also be done with an email. Once you’ve finalized her order, send an email with her totals and ask her to email back with what items she wants. This could save you a lot of time playing phone tag.
F-Then do your drawings and reward all the incentives you offered. Be sure to follow up with a Thank You card.
